The topic of veterinary cannabis is new and evolving and the cannabis market and research ecosystem is globally expanding.  This course is applicable for students on any continent.

Our certification course prepares students to be mentally-agile and scientifically-critical in the rapidly evolving cannabis industry.  The goal of this course is to empower graduates to apply their experiences and skillsets as strong advocates for animal patients within the emerging cannabis industry.

Veterinary Cannabis Counselor (VCC) Track

Credentialed & Non-credentialed Veterinary Technicians

​Students learn:

  • Endocannabinoid system (ECS) science basics

  • Clinical applications and potential pharmaceutical interactions for cannabis-derived molecules

  • Support of the veterinary clinician /prescribers (veterinarians) in a clinic environment

  • Principles for providing harm reduction education to animal caregivers

  • Principles of product safety evaluations

  • Principles for interacting with cannabis manufacturers and regulators

Graduates receive a Veterinary Cannabis Counselor (VCC) certification which requires renewal every 2 years.

Graduation requirements include:

  • Complete self-paced content prior to classroom webinars

  • Participate in Community Forum, student discussion groups​

  • Attend, participate in 6 live classroom webinars

  • Pass a written exam, complete a product safety & clinical application evaluation

  • Complete and pass a review of 6 clinical case studies

  • Complete, present, & pass a review of 1 case presentation during a Grand Rounds session

Veterinary Cannabis Guide (VCG) Track

Non-medical or Non-veterinary Professionals

Students learn:

  • ​Endocannabinoid system (ECS) science basics

  • Support of the veterinary medical team and veterinary medical ethics

  • Principles for providing harm reduction education to animal caregivers

  • Principles of product safety evaluations

  • Principles for interacting with cannabis manufacturers and regulators

Graduates receive a Veterinary Cannabis Guide (VCG) certification.  There is no renewal required.

Graduation requirements include:

  • Complete self-paced content prior to classroom webinars

  • Participate in Community Forum, student discussion groups​

  • Attend, participate in 6 live classroom webinars

  • Pass a written exam, complete a product safety & clinical application evaluation

  • Attend 1 case presentation during a Grand Rounds session

Cannabis-knowledgable Veterinarian Track

Veterinarians

Students learn:

  • ​Endocannabinoid system (ECS) science basics

  • Diagnostic use of cannabis-derived molecules, integrating a cannabis plan into concurrent treatment plans

  • Clinical applications and potential pharmaceutical interactions for cannabis-derived molecules

  • Integrating support of other cannabis-knowledgable colleagues in practices & clinic environments

  • Principles for providing harm reduction education to animal caregivers

  • Principles of product safety evaluations

Graduates receive a completion certificate. Graduation requirements include:

  • Complete self-paced content prior to classroom webinars

    Participate in Community Forum, student discussion groups​

  • Attend, participate in 6 live classroom webinars

12 weeks of guided learning with small-size discussion and mentorship groups.​

The goal of this course is to provide both medical and non-medical veterinary professionals with education about the safe and scientific utilization of cannabis in veterinary medicine. This course provides 12 weeks of self-paced learning, facilitated discussion, forum and educational resources, and small-group mentorship to both medical and non-medical veterinary professionals in a joint learning environment. 

 

Students learn together with content curated for their learning track as class mentors help tailor the course material for each student's educational background and experience.

 

After completion of the self-paced learning and live webinar classroom discussion portion of this course, students will solidify learned principles through a written examination, independently completed case studies (VCC) or a product review (VCG), and a case presentation (VCC) / attendance (VCG) at a Grand Rounds session.

What is a flipped classroom?

This course is designed as a joint learning environment for both medical and non-medical veterinary professionals spanning the range of technical support staff, veterinary clinicians, and industry.  

Our flipped classroom model presents new topics and lessons to students outside the classroom with support for various learning styles.  The classroom discussions (via webinar) focus on colleague-led discussions, clinical topics and questions, and current events.
