Veterinary Cannabis Counselor - Specialist
Veterinary Cannabis Counselor Specialists (VCC-__ ) have expert knowledge of cannabis use within distinct speciality fields. These Specialists are qualified to work with veterinarians to create a cannabis plan for cases that may involve complicated concurrent treatments and drug protocols or tackle cases that are refractory to routine cannabis plans.

Specialists may act as a resource for other Veterinary Cannabis Counselors and veterinary professionals to provide consultation and recommendation for cases that fall within their specialty.

- Internal Medicine (VCC-IM)
- Pain Management (VCC-PM)
- Oncology/Palliative Care (VCC-O/P)
- Behavior (VCC-B)
Pre-requisites:
Curriculum & Schedule:
Graduates will earn a Veterinary Cannabis Counselor - Specialist certification after successfully completing the following:
Continuing Education (CE) & Renewal Requirements:
Technician continuing education credits for VCC-Specialist training available when requested in advance.
VCC-Specialist certifications are valid for two years after the date of graduation. Eight hours of continuing education are required for renewal. Four of these CE hours must be within the speciality field.
This CE requirement may be met by any of the following:
- Age: Applicants must be 21+ years at the start of class
- Education & Experience: Completion of VCC training with at least 6 months experience and at minimum 50 documented cases
- Clinical Recommendation: Recommendation letter from 1 veterinarian working within field of desired speciality
Curriculum & Schedule:
Graduates will earn a Veterinary Cannabis Counselor - Specialist certification after successfully completing the following:
- Four consecutive two-hour webinar sessions on speciality topic
- Cannabis Topic Thesis focusing on speciality topic
- Six case study reports for animals with conditions within the speciality topic and approved by veterinarian that provided clinical recommendation

- Cannabis-specific lecture with either veterinarian or technician license CE approval i.e. RACE approved CE, state board approved CE
- Lecture presented at the annual Cannabis in Veterinary Medicine Symposium (CVMS)
- Documented internship hours with a veterinarian working within field of specialty
- Reputable cannabis education class with a clinical/medical focus (approved on a case-by-case basis)
