What is the VCC externship program?
The VCC externship program offers enrolled VCC students an opportunity to accumulate practice working with cannabis-related animal cases, without pay, under the guidance of the Veterinary Cannabis Consultation Team including the team’s senior VCCs.  This program allows the student to:
  • Be exposed to different areas of medical practice within the veterinary cannabis industry
  • Develop communication skills with veterinary colleagues, animal caregivers, and the cannabis industry
  • Build a direct understanding of the complex interactions between medicine, science, education, counseling and legal issues that exist in the veterinary cannabis industry

Can I be an extern?
The VCC externship is open to active/enrolled VCC students.  A student’s application packet to the VCC certification course must have been accepted and all tuition paid in full prior to consideration for this program.

This is a 4 month externship program.
Externship positions are available
every quarter with start dates in January, April, July, and October.

Externs accepted into this program will be required to sign an agreement detailing professionalism standards in conduct, product neutrality, client confidentiality, and veterinary ethics.

Requirements to be an extern
  • Active student in the VCC certification course
  • Tuition paid in full

Can I get paid for my externship hours?
No.  There is no direct compensation for this externship.

Accepted externs that have not yet started their certification class will have the option to enroll in our Tuition Payback program.  If approved for this payback program, externs may earn back 25% of the VCC certification course tuition by satisfactorily completing the externship.

How do I apply for an externship?
Active VCC students are evaluated for their aptitude for the Externship Program.
An invitation-to-apply email will be sent out to all eligible VCC students at the start each application period.
