Dr. João Lourenço Hasckel Gewehr
Médico Veterinário (MV)

Master Degree candidate, Conventional and Integrative Veterinary Medicine at the Federal University of Brazil (UFSC)

Dr. Gewehr has been a lifelong admirer of animals. Since he was a child, he always felt a strong connection towards pets, which led him to pursue a career as a doctor of veterinary medicine. Shortly before graduation from his veterinary education program, he undertook the adventure of his dreams: to understand and work with cannabis for animals. Dr. Gewehr came to the United States in 2019 to study with Dr. Andre, the founder of Veterinary Cannabis, for 4 months.
During his time in the United States, Dr. Gewehr also completed the Veterinary Cannabis Counselor (VCC) course. He graduated as a veterinarian (Médico Veterinário, MV)  from Santa Catarina’s State College of Brazil in 2020. Since then, he has worked with both traditional veterinary medicine as a general practice clinician and cannabis medicine in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

In 2021, Dr. Gewehr began focusing on his work with cannabis. He wrote and published the e-book
“Guia Inicial da Cannabis na Medicina Veterinária”  or “Initial Guide of Cannabis in Veterinary Medicine” . In that same year, he launched his first course, Médico Veterinário Canabinologista” “MVC – Cannabinologist Veterinary Doctor”, in association with RED Medical Cannabis Brazil.  Dr. Gewehr started his Master’s Degree in the use of cannabis in animals at the Federal University of Brazil.
Dr. Gewehr is committed to boosting the understanding of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in animals and the effect that cannabis-derived molecules have on this system.  He strongly believes that cannabis can help countless pets and pet parents around the globe, and is dedicated to achieving this goal with kindness, respect and professionalism.  Dr. Gewehr continues to expand his own knowledge on the safe and effective use of cannabis in pets.  He serves as an advocate for other students to pursue education on the ECS and cannabis medicine and hopes to inspire his colleagues to pursue one of the most interesting and promising areas of veterinary medicine that he is so passionate about.  He is currently launching his educational platform - Bliss Education - that will provide high-quality, translated (Portuguese, Spanish, English, and others to come!) education to the global veterinary cannabis community.

Dr. João Lourenço Hasckel Gewehr currently divides his time between his hometown, Florianópolis, and the city of his Master’s Degree, Curitibanos – Santa Catarina – Brazil.
